How PAC Home Services books after-hours jobs with a custom AI receptionist
A Staten Island plumbing and HVAC contractor answered 490 calls with a custom AI receptionist, booked 207 appointments, and won 102 of them outside business hours.

- Call qualification and booking
- Emergency escalation to the owner
- Call logging portal
The problem
Home services calls do not keep office hours. A burst pipe at 9pm and a routine quote at 2pm arrive on the same phone line, and the calls that come in after the office closes are the ones most likely to reach whoever answers first. For a contractor, coverage outside business hours is a revenue question.
The obvious fix was an answering service or one of the boxed AI receptionists being sold to contractors. The limitation of those is structural: they answer the phone, but they are not built to be shaped around how a specific contractor qualifies a job, prices a visit, or decides what counts as an emergency. PAC wanted something that fit the way they already work.
Why they chose a custom build
“The reason we went with Comserv Connect is they showed us the capabilities, and the willingness to work with me to customize my solution, instead of a prepackaged solution from another provider that might even cost more.”
That is the whole argument for this kind of project. A boxed product makes your business fit its script. A custom agent starts from your script.
What we built
We built PAC a voice agent that answers inbound calls at any hour. On a call it:
- Collects the caller's name, address, and the nature of the problem
- Works out whether the job is routine, urgent, or a genuine emergency
- Books the appointment through PAC's existing scheduling workflow
- Alerts the owner immediately when the call is an emergency
- Hands off to a person when the call is something a person should take
Calls are logged in a portal PAC can review, with the transcript and recording for the calls that produced them, so the office can see what happened on the phone.

What it runs on
A custom voice agent, a booking workflow wired into how PAC already schedules work, an emergency alert path straight to the owner, and a call portal for review. No part of it is a product PAC could have bought off a shelf, which was the point.
How these numbers were measured
- Call metrics: PAC call portal, June 1 to August 15, 2026, test calls excluded. Computed with the portal's own definitions: calls handled excludes hangups under 15 seconds, and booking rate is bookings divided by calls that reached a conversation.
- After-hours definition: Calls starting before 8am or at or after 6pm Eastern, matching the portal's reporting.
